GTCR was founded by Stanley Golder in 1980. One of the most respected private equity firms in the country, GTCR has over $8 billion in equity and mezzanine capital under management. GTCR has executed more than 80 management-led investments and has been credited by The Wall Street Journal with having invented the management-led industry consolidation strategy — a leadership position that has been similarly acknowledged by Fortune and Business Week. This strategy is based on identifying and recruiting exceptional managers that invest, build, and realize liquidity in partnership with GTCR.
Stanley Golder, Founder A pioneer of the modern private equity industry, Stanley Golder entered the private equity field in the early 1960s as a senior executive at First Chicago. In 1980, he formed Golder, Thoma and Cressey, which is now GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC.
Since 1980, GTCR has invested more than $5 billion of equity funds. Additionally, GTCR has managed GTCR Capital Partners, a $450 million mezzanine debt fund, since 1999.
GTCR has raised four substantial funds. Fund VI, $870 million in size, was raised in 1998; Fund VII, $2.0 billion in size, was raised in 2000; and Fund VIII, $1.8 billion in size, was raised in 2003. Most recently, GTCR raised $2.75 billion for Fund IX.
