Tim Whall, President and CEO of Protection One (GTCR's third investment with Tim), has over 27 years of experience in the security alarm monitoring industry. Tim joined SecurityLink in 1990 as a Service Manager and ultimately became President and COO of the business. In 2000, SecurityLink was acquired from SBC by GTCR, at which time Tim continued to serve as the company’s President and COO. Tim then transformed SecurityLink from a business with negative earnings to $80 million in run-rate earnings in just six months. Tim was also instrumental in helping GTCR sell SecurityLink to Tyco/ADT for $1 billion. Following the sale to Tyco, Tim spent three years (2001-2004) in senior management roles at ADT. Tim left ADT in 2004 to again partner as President and COO with GTCR to acquire Honeywell’s Security Monitoring division (“HSM”) for $315 million. While at HSM, Tim completed a successful carve-out of the division from its former parent within 9 months while improving total revenue no less than 17% per year for the next three years under GTCR’s ownership. During this time period, Tim also improved HSM’s annual attrition from 13.4% to 9.0% and implemented best in class operational metrics. Tim was also instrumental in preparing HSM for its eventual sale to Stanley Black & Decker Inc. in 2007 for $545 million. Tim served as COO of Stanley Black and Decker’s Convergent Security Solutions division for one year following the sale, until he left Stanley in 2008 to again pursue opportunities in the industry with GTCR. This partnership eventually led to the June 2010 acquisition of Protection One, GTCR's third investment with Tim. Tim has a BA in Business from Michigan State University.
