Herbert Fritch, currently the Chairman and CEO of HealthSpring, has over 30 years of experience in the managed healthcare business. Prior to founding HealthSpring's parent company, NewQuest, Mr. Fritch served as vice president of Managed Care for PhyCor, a Nashville-based physician practice management company. Mr. Fritch joined PhyCor following its acquisition of North American Medical Management (NAMM) in 1995, which Mr. Fritch founded and where he served as president from 1991 to 1999. Prior to NAMM, Mr. Fritch served as a regional vice president for Partners National Healthplans (PNH) from 1988 to 1991, where he was responsible for the oversight of seven HMOs in the southern Region. Mr. Fritch’s affiliation with PNH was the result of PNH’s acquisition of Inland Health Plan in 1987, which Mr. Fritch joined in 1986. Prior to PNH, Mr. Fritch cofounded Sanus Corp. Health Systems in 1982, where he had primary responsibility for opening HMOs in the following markets: Dallas and Houston, Texas; and assisted in St. Louis, Missouri, Washington, D.C., and New York. After five years, Sanus was sold to New York Life and became known as NYCare, which was later sold to Aetna. Mr. Fritch began his career as an actuary with Milliman and Robertson in 1973.
